Shades Concert at More Than Words 1/10/25

$10.00

Please join us on Friday, January 10th, at 6pm, for a performance by the Yale University undergraduate a cappella group, Shades.

Shades is a co-educational a cappella group founded to celebrate music of the African Diaspora and African-American tradition. Thirty-five years ago, a group of Black students came together to create a space at Yale University where their voices - and the music they loved - could be heard. Led by Titilayo Ngwenya, a Boston-area native, Shades has risen to become one of Yale's premiere a cappella groups. The group’s name in itself stands as a testament to their appreciation of diversity within the group as they celebrate the depth and complexity of the Black experience.

A nominal registration fee of $10 per person is requested to help support the group’s upcoming spring tour. Additional donations to the group are welcomed and are tax-deductible when donated through the Shades Alumni Family, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Light refreshments will be served starting at 6pm. The group’s performance is scheduled from 6:30pm to 7:15pm and the event ends at 8:30pm.

The venue is the Boston book store location of More Than Words, an organization where youth ages 16-24 who are in foster-care, homeless, out-of-school, or in the court system, learn to run an online and retail bookstore while also getting full wrap-around support to tackle the barriers from our state systems and take charge of their lives.
